Civil Aviation Department Headquarters
Security, circulation and safe escape for an air traffic control centre
Challenge
The Civil Aviation Department (CAD) Headquarters is located southeast of the Hong Kong International Airport terminals in Chek Lap Kok.
The facility was designed by architects Ronald Lu & Partners and competed in 2012.
The three blocks include an air traffic control centre, an office and training building, and a facilities building.
Previously scattered around the city, the new complex houses the CAD divisions in a single location. This enhances the department’s ability to maintain a safe and efficient air traffic control system in Hong Kong.
The new building also welcomes visitors to its integrated Education Centre to serve the public interest in air traffic control operations.

Solution
KeyTech worked closely with the design and build contractor to provide an ironmongery specification.
The resulting spec balanced the building’s complex requirements for strict security control, free public circulation, and safe emergency escape.
Different grades of hardware were specified according to the door location within the buildings and their frequency of use.

Successful completion
KeyTech achieved the complex security, emergency escape, regulatory and cost requirements of the facility.
The team also satisfied the operational and functional needs of the many divisions that relocated to the new headquarters.
